Introducing Jens Golombek
System Developer
(Computer Science graduate)
A bit about me
For a long time I had dreamed of a job where I could design and develop software. So it didn’t take me long to work out which career path I wanted to follow: the decision to do a computer science course was more or less already mapped out for me. During my course I worked particularly in the areas of artificial intelligence and XML technologies - initially purely out of scientific interest. As it later turned out, though, that choice was actually spot-on for me.
My 4-year part-time job as a student assistant looking after the computers at the Department of Mathematics quickly enabled me to gain practical experience in the system administration of Linux/Unix systems. I believe I can describe myself as a communicative person who establishes contacts quickly and likes to communicate with others and pass on my knowledge. I regarded the possibility of being able to teach during my degree course, in particular as a lecturer on Linux/Unix, as a challenge for me.
How I came to infinity³
My lecturing work held another surprise for me: the chance to provide employee training on operating systems and system administration at a leading telecommunications company. It seems I did quite well there, for my present boss noticed me. Some time later he offered me a job at his recently founded company. Obviously I was interested right away when he offered me the opportunity to get in at the start of a new software company.
That’s how my part-time job and my dissertation at infinity³ finally led to a permanent position as a System Developer.
Of course, it’s not always a picnic being plunged into major development projects right from the start, but my decision paid off in every respect. Incidentally, one of my fellow students is now working here too.
What I like about infinity³
It really says a lot for such a new company that they invest so much in young people. Exciting, varied work, with each individual working on their own responsibility, are just some of the things my colleagues and I appreciate at infinity³. A strong, professional team of colleagues one can rely on one hundred per cent is essential. We are all heading in the same direction and each of us is prepared to be pushed to their limits. Very flexible working time arrangements and a superb working climate more than make up for the hard work.
I really don’t think I could ever find such freedom at a big company. Our list of projects and customers is proof that that in addition, we are just as innovative as the big players in the industry and quite often our agility puts us that little bit ahead.
